This webinar explores human conscience and self-awareness in the light of Revelation. It will guide participants in understanding the inner mechanisms that shape thoughts, emotions, and behavior, offering practical tools for deepening self­awareness, forming moral conscience, and fostering spiritual discernment. 
Participation is free and open to all, especially those who provide spiritual guidance in their ministry. No prior registration is required: participants can ioin via the Apostolic Penitentiary's YouTube channel on the day of the live event. The study and training seminar, structured in four presentations, will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., live on the Apostolic Penitentiary’s YouTube channel.

The areas of the presentations are as follows:

• Foundational area: My conscience, what do they say about you? A first clarification, by Cardinal Angelo De Donatis, Major Penitentiary.
• Biblical area: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart! But who is my neighbor?, by Don Andrea Valori, priest of the Diocese of Rome and biblical scholar.
• Theological-moral area: The living good calls to my conscience. Elements for forming a correct moral judgment, by Don Marco Panero SDB, professor of philosophy and counselor of the Apostolic Penitentiary.
• Theological-spiritual area: Against the dictatorship of relativism. Spiritual discernment and the formation of conscience, by P. Jaime Emilio González Magaña SJ, professor of spirituality and theologian of the Apostolic Penitentiary.

Participants will be guided to better understand the inner mechanisms that influence thoughts, emotions, and behavior. The course aims to provide practical tools to deepen self-awareness in the light of the Word of God, the formation of moral conscience, and the dynamics of spiritual discernment.

The program is open to all who wish to deepen their self-knowledge, and particularly to those who, in their ministry, provide spiritual accompaniment.

No registration is required: to participate, it will be sufficient to connect to the Apostolic Penitentiary’s YouTube channel on the day of the live broadcast.

In this presentation, Sister Bonnie MacLellan, CSJ, JCD, will share reflections on the role of the diocesan bishop when religious institutes, be they diocesan or pontifical, make a decision to come to completion. The discussion will include the role of the diocesan bishop in general, the relationship between bishops and religious; current demographic realities for religious institutes in North America; canonical reconfiguration options for consideration including collaborative governance models, and necessary canonical processes associated with each option.

How is the date on which we celebrate Easter each year decided? Who came up with that "formula?" The question of a common date for Easter has reappeared frequently in ecumenical parlance, most recently by Pope Francis in June 2015. This webinar seeks to explore the canonical underpinnings of this question, applying an historical analysis of the question as well as discussing the ecclesiological implications (both ad intra and ad extra) for the Catholic Church. The following questions will be considered:

• In general, from a perspective of comparative ecclesiastical law, what is the relationship between the unity between various Christian churches/ecclesial communities and a common Easter date?

• What is the historical background of the legislation underlying the Easter date?

• What proposals existed prior to the Tridentine reforms to reform the Easter date?

• What laws of the various Orthodox churches and other ecclesial communities regulate this matter? What are their similarities and differences?

• How has the modern ecumenical movement fostered a movement toward unity in this matter?

• Is there a potential way forward that would serve the needs of unity amongst churches as well as safeguard the autonomy of different Christian groups to legislate on this subject?

Presenter: Father Albert P. Marcello, III, J.C.D. (Cand.) is a priest of the diocese of Providence, holding an S.T.B. and M.A. in Thomistic Studies from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, and a J.C.L. from the Catholic University of Louvain, where he is a doctoral candidate in canon law. He serves as a hospital chaplain as well as a tribunal official for several dioceses. He is also the manager of The Divinum Officium Project.
