Statement of the Board of Governors
Concerning the Posting of Member Directory Information on the CLSA Website

 

At 8:18 p.m. on Monday, March 26, the online CLSA Member Directory was made publicly accessible. This was due to an error by the website contractor, which was made known to some Society members at 4:17 p.m. on March 27. At 4:44 p.m., the CLSA office was notified. The pertinent webpages were deactivated eight minutes later. By 5:04 p.m., IT support for the CLSA verified that member information was no longer accessible. A subsequent review of the statistics of visitors and page views to the CLSA website confirms that no one viewed the directory pages until March 27.

The posting of member information on a publicly accessible website and the compromise of member data should not have happened. On behalf of the Board of Governors, I apologize to the members of the Canon Law Society of America. As the CLSA continues to transition from its old website to the present one, the Board of Governors is committed not only to improving the functionality of the website but, more importantly, to safeguarding the security of member information.
