Rev. Msgr. James Parizek, long-time member of the Canon Law Society of America, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
Ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Davenport in 1972, Fr. Parizek served as an associate pastor at St. Paul the Apostle in Davenport from 1972 until 1976. He completed his licentiate of canon law in 1978 from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and in 1976, he was appointed as assistant chancellor for the diocese and auditor for the tribunal. He went on to become vice officialis and prosynodal judge in 1978. As a member of the CLSA, he served two terms as secretary of the Board of Governors, and he was involved in the National Convention as a committee member for Convention Planning and as a seminar presenter.
In 1981, Msgr. Parizek was appointed vice chancellor, judicial vicar, and director of the Davenport tribunal, where he served until 2001. The following year, he served as parochial vicar at Holy Family Parish in Davenport, before transitioning into the position of promoter of justice (2002-2016) and dean of the Davenport Deanery (2010-2016). He was instrumental in the development of a ministry to the hearing impaired in the Diocese of Davenport and active in serving that community. From 2002 until his retirement in 2016, he was assigned as pastor of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Davenport.
Visitation for Msgr. Parizek will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport, Iowa. A Vigil Service for the Deceased will be held at 7:00 PM. The funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Friday, February 9, at 11:00 AM. There will be a visitation in the Cathedral from 10:00 AM to the time of the funeral on February 9th.
