Pope Francis has named CLSA member Bishop Edward C. Malesic of the Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania as the new bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio. Bishop Malesic will become the 12th bishop of Cleveland, succeeding Archbishop Nelson
Perez who was named the archbishop of Philadelphia in February.
Bishop Malesic became a member of the Canon Law Society of America in 1996 when he was sent to study canon law at The Catholic University of America. He subsequently earned his licentiate degree in 1998. Bishop Malesic served in the Diocese of Harrisburg’s Tribunal for several years in various positions. In 2015, he was named Bishop of Greensburg and currently serves on the USCCB Committee on Canonical Affairs.
Bishop-designate Malesic will be installed on September 14, 2020 during a Mass in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland. The CLSA offers our warmest congratulations to Bishop-designate Malesic!
