Rev. John C. Hergenrother, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago, died on Monday, July 8 2019, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving family. Father Hergenrother was a longtime member of the CLSA. After a two-year long courageous battle against cancer, he died while in hospice care.

His devoted pastoral service included parish, archdiocesan and national administrative roles. Father Hergenrother assisted the Archbishop of Chicago as Chancellor and as Judge of the Metropolitan Tribunal. In recent years, while continuing to serve as a Judge in the Tribunal, he celebrated Mass at Villa Desiderata Retreat House in McHenry, Illinois and at parishes near his home in Wisconsin. Despite his illness, he continued to work on nullity cases as a Judge until several weeks ago.

Beloved son of the late Isabelle and John C. Hergenrother Sr., he is survived by his loving family and cherished friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Louise de Marillac Church, 30th and Harrison in LaGrange Park, Illinois, on Saturday, July 13th. His final resting place is Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 111th & California Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.

He will be greatly missed. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Father John C. Hergenrother.
