Brother Patrick T. Shea, O.F.M.

Brother Patrick T. Shea, O.F.M., a religious brother of the Order of Friars Minor for the Province of the Sacred Heart, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 29, 2017.

A long-standing member of the Canon Law Society of America, Br. Pat earned his civil law degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1976, and was admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin, Ohio, and Illinois. He completed his licentiate in canon law in 1988, and went on to earn his JCD from The Catholic University of America in 1993. In addition to significant work on behalf of the Diocese of Cleveland (Attorney; Assistant Chancellor), Br. Pat faithfully served the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, as an Assistant to the Vicar General, General Counsel, and Defender of the Bond from 1993 to 2002, and most recently, as Vice Chancellor of the Diocese and Liasion for Religious.

Br. Pat was a member of the CLSA Resolutions Committee from 2007-2011, and he served on the Board of Governors from 2001-2003. A regular attendee of the Society's annual conference, he most recently delivered a seminar at the 2016 CLSA Convention in Houston, Texas, and in previous years, he offered his services as a Parliamentarian at the Annual Business Meeting.

Visitation will be held at St. Francis Convent in Springfield, Illinois, from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017. An additional visitation will be held from 12:00 – 12:45 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Springfield, Illinois. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017, with Bishop Thomas Paprocki and Monsignor David Hoefler officiating.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
